Electrical

Electrical work is where Dawsons started, and it is still the core of what we do. We cover everything from a single extra socket in a house to distribution work on a commercial unit, and every job is tested and handed over with the right certificate.

Common questions

Electrical — questions we get asked

What is an EICR, and how often do I need one?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a formal inspection of a property’s fixed wiring. It records anything unsafe or not up to current standards and gives the installation a satisfactory or unsatisfactory result. In England, privately rented homes must have one at least every five years, and at the start of a new tenancy. For owner-occupied homes the usual guidance is every ten years, or on purchase.

How much does a rewire cost?

It depends on the size of the property, how much of the existing wiring can stay, and how much making-good is needed afterwards. We survey the property first and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts — the survey is free and there is no obligation.

Can you install an EV charge point?

Yes. We check the incoming supply and consumer unit can take the load, fit the charger and the protective devices it needs, and test and certify the circuit on completion.

My lights keep tripping the fuse board — can you find out why?

Yes, that is standard fault-finding work. A repeatedly tripping circuit usually means a genuine fault rather than a nuisance, so it is worth investigating properly rather than resetting it. Call us and we will get someone out.
